Port Marine Safety Code
Beaulieu Enterprise Ltd. is committed to discharging all of its statutory duties and to remaining open, accountable and fit for purpose. Its plan to manage the safety of marine operations is to voluntarily, and as appropriate, comply with the requirements of the Port Marine Safety Code and to follow the guidance in the Guide to Good Practice on Port Marine Operations.
In doing so it will, despite commercial pressures,- Take responsible care so that all who may choose to navigate in the river may do so without danger to their lives or property.
- Conserve and promote the safe use of the river
- Have regard to efficiency, economy and safety of marine operations
- Take such action that is necessary or desirable for the maintenance, operation, improvement or conservancy of the river.
Beaulieu Enterprise Ltd. will base its powers and policies on a formal assessment of hazards and risks and it will maintain a formal safety management system which will ensure that all risks are managed so that they are as low as reasonably practicable. Beaulieu Enterprise Ltd. will employ and engage competent and qualified staff and contractors. It has appointed an independent designated person who will annually audit the Harbour Authority’s compliance with the Port Marine Safety Code and who will report directly to the Board. The designated person shall assess in his reports the Harbour Authority’s performance against its plan of complying with all of the requirements of the Port Marine Safety Code and to following the guidance in the Guide to Good Practice on Port Marine Operations. Where deemed appropriate the reports of the designated person may be made public.

Speed Limit
The speed limit on Beaulieu River is 5 knots, including the lower reaches and the entrance to the mouth of the river. Failure to comply may result in prosecution.

Wash
Mind your wash.

Prohibited
- Animals from abroad
- Jet skiing, water skiing or board sailing
- Underwater diving
- Anchoring one mile either side of Buckler’s Hard
- Mooring onto navigation buoys, beacons or marks

Fishing
Day and annual permits can be purchased for fishing in the river. Please call either the Harbour Master's Office 01590 616200 or the Estate Office 01590 614621.

Swimming
Swimming is not recommended in the river and is prohibited in and around the Marina. Skippers are however asked to keep a good look out for swimmers and should be prepared to give a wide berth, slow down or stop should it be necessary.

Suitability of Tenders
Any tender used to transport personnel or equipment should be suitable to provide safe passage. Please consider:
- The strength of the tide
- Weather and sea conditions
- The presence of other vessels and their wash
- The distance to the parent vessel

Lifejackets
Users of dories, dinghies, tenders and anyone working on the river are advised to wear lifejackets when on the water.

Time Expired Pyrotechnics
The MCA via Solent coastguard will accept small quantities of TEPs from personal callers at the MRCC at Lee on Solent. This service is by prior appointment only. Please call 02392 552100. Please ensure your TEPs can be transferred to the MRCC in the safest possible manner, using the original container if available.
